Skills Building Course

Background

NPC issued the MWE Implementation Plan.

MWE Implementation Plan skills building component initiated February 2001 chartered by NPC.

Course walk-through conducted May 2001 with representatives from the unions, employee associations, and management personnel.

Final course completed July 2001.

Prototype classes scheduled September 2001.

Prototype course would provide initial MWE Skills Building Course instructional personnel cadre for training all AMC employees.

Course Overview

16 hours estimated.

Focuses on skill aspects of the Model Work Environment initiative.

Exercises designed for participants to acquire and practice skills in a "safe" environment.

Compliant with the constraints of PL 104-50.

7 scenarios dealing with MWE issues.

Course Overview

Participants are required to use synthesizing skills to focus all elements (communications, conflict resolution, collaboration, & problem-solving) on defining principles and resolving issues.

Topics include:

Diversity Inclusion Discrimination Trust
Preventing sexual harassment Disability accommodation Open communications
Eliminating hostile work environment.

Course Outcomes

Participants will:

Share a common view of what elements are included in the MWE initiative.

Understand why MWE makes good "business sense" for the FAA, unions, and employees.

Distinguish mental models and positions which promote MWE from those that impede it.

Encourage open inquiry by communicating with sensitivity regarding differences among people.

Use collaborative techniques that focus on common interests and acceptable outcomes when solving MWE work issues.

Take actions, solve problems, and make decisions based on accurate knowledge of MWE goals, policies and guidance.

Proposed Implementation

FY01 - Initial effort Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center.

2 prototype, cadre-training classes for AMC.

16 students per class.
