A Flight Service Station is an FAA-operated facility providing pre-flight weather and flight planning information, in-flight updates and aeronautical facility data to pilots operating commercial, military and general aviation aircraft. |
NAATS members are air traffic controllers and they meet the same job classification as their air traffic control colleagues, working for the FAA in the tower and enroute options. |
FLIGHT SERVICE CONTROLLERS ROLES ARE SAFETY CRITICAL. Despite this, since October 1998 flight service controllers, have been compensated at a significantly lower rate than their tower and enroute option controller colleagues. There is now an eighteen percent average base pay disparity between flight service controllers and other air traffic controllers. |
|||
The pay differential between flight service controllers and their colleagues has led to significantly decreased morale in the service. Retention levels have declined. Recruitment has been affected. |
|||
If left uncorrected, this disparity will lead to a shortage of flight service controllers and could impact aviation safety. Flight service controllers are dedicated air traffic controllers who play a vital role in keeping our skies safe. We are calling for full equality in compensation for all air traffic controllers. |
