How the Internet Email (IMAIL) works:

1. EMAIL Address: The format is [firstinitial][lastname]@naats.org  i.e. Wally Pike = [email protected]

ANYBODY WHO HAS AN ACCOUNT CAN BE REACHED BY USING THIS FORMAT.

2. ALIAS name: These are like placeholders. Messages sent to an ALIAS are immediately forwarded to the email address(es) configured for it. (I.e. I have a USER-name/Email-address of "[email protected]", I also have an ALIAS-name of [email protected] Since LOGON names are limited to 8-characters and ALIAS names are not, I�m able to receive mail sent to the standard format described above.)

It�s important to emphasis that ALIAS�s can forward to both individuals or groups. This feature allows for effective distribution of information.

We can have an unlimited amount of ALIAS names, so ALL REQUESTS CAN BE HONORED. If you would like to have a particular ALIAS setup, please forward the information to me and I can set it up. Remember ALIAS�s can be used just like an email address. So go ahead and get creative.

SOME QUESTIONS THAT BEEN ASKED DURING THE LAST FEW MONTHS ABOUT THIS NEW IMAIL SERVICE:

1. Can any of the web-administrators (John & Steve) read the messages in the email accounts.

NO. We can only see the number of characters your password has (we see an asterisk for each character). We can CHANGE your password if you forget it, but that's about it. We strongly recommend everyone change their password the first time they access their account (after I get the information to you.)

2. Can I still use my AOL account and get the email sent to my NAATS.ORG address?

YES. As before, the new web-hosting company does NOT provide access to the Internet. This is still an individual responsibility. Additionally, each USER account now has the ability to FORWARD its own email to another email-address. This is a feature that each USER must configure. This IS a change from how business was done before, where John had to configure all of the forwarding information. Currently, each account is configured to forward its messages to the email address on record with Gretna.

3. If I send a message to an ALIAS that contains a list of email addresses, who will see reply messages sent by any of those on the list?

DEPENDS. When a message is sent to an ALIAS containing a list of addresses, each of those on the list will see the other addresses in the "cc:" field of the message. When replying, each will have the choice to reply "to all", reply "to one", or anything in between.

4. Can I use an Email software (Eudora, Microsoft Outlook, etc.) with my NAATS.ORG account?

YES. These software require POP3 & SMTP information. Our new web-hosting company offers this. Our POP3/SMTP server is "naats.org". The LOGIN/PASSWORD information will be the same as what you use to LOGIN to through IMAIL.

This brings up a good point: There are actually 3 ways to access messages sent to a NAATS.ORG account.

1. LOGIN through the WEB Imail page located at "http://naats.org:8383"

2. LOGIN to the USER account directly using Email Software (POP3/SMTP.)

3. Have all messages forwarded to another email address and retrieve them there.

Anyone of these methods can be used and are fully configurable by each USER. You will be receiving instructions on each of these when you receive your LOGIN/PASSWORD information. If there are still problems, just contact either John or myself for help.

5. Who is the administrator for our new web-site?

John Dibble & Steve Glowacki. Due to the enhanced features this web-hosting company offers - beyond our previous service, John and I have realized there is too much for one to handle. We've had to work closely throughout the transition and configuration process and plan on sharing the duties to ensure continued service to the membership. As a general rule, John is going to continue to handle the Website and I'll be focusing on the Email and some of the other new services offered by AIT. Messages sent to "[email protected]" will be forwarded to both of us. Hopefully, this will guarantee the least amount of downtime should a problem arise.
